About FutureOD
FutureOD is an independent guide to optometry school admissions, built by a current applicant who works in pediatric eye care.
Choosing a program means pulling numbers from a dozen PDFs, school pages and forum threads. FutureOD puts them in one place, explains what they mean, and gives you free tools to apply them to your own situation.
Where the data comes from
- Board results: ASCO's NBEO Institutional Yearly Performance Report for graduates tested Oct 1, 2024–Sep 30, 2025.
- Class GPA, OAT and seats: ASCO's Profile of the 2025 Optometry Entering Class.
- Applicant counts: OptomCAS verified applicants for the 2024–25 cycle.
- Deadlines, fees and letters: OptomCAS school information for the 2026–27 cycle.
- Tuition: each school's own tuition page where available. Figures from third-party listings, older years or derived estimates are labeled on each school's page.
How estimates work
Four-year costs add tuition to a living allowance based on the area's cost of living: low $21,000, moderate $25,000, high $30,000 or very high $36,000 a year. They hold tuition flat and leave out equipment, board fees and insurance, so they run low on purpose to keep schools comparable. Schools' own cost-of-attendance budgets are usually 10–15% higher.
The stats checker compares your numbers with each class average. It's a rough guide to where you stand, not a prediction.
What to keep in mind
- Board data covers one year. Small classes can swing widely, so check each school's outcomes page for trends.
- Southern College of Optometry requires passing NBEO Parts I and II to graduate, which affects how its rates compare.
- Tuition rises about 3–4% a year. We update figures each application cycle.
Editorial independence
No school can pay to change its data or its position in any table on FutureOD. If we ever run sponsored content or advertising, it will be clearly labeled and kept separate from the data.
